In the UK all of the security guard qualifications have been set by the SIA, known as the security industry authority. Security is a serious field and requires dedicated training for those acting as a security person to perform well and deliver great service every time.

The law that is relevant to the security industry – Security persons and agencies must know and understand the rules set down by the SIA.
The functions of a door supervisor could be; to control entry into the building, to know the complete fire procedure in case of emergency, to understand health and safety procedures, to search people and their property, to recognise and stop conflicts.
Another, in high demand, position is a CCTV operator. CCTV stands for closed circuit television. These devices are designed to protect property from a distance in a single location. These jobs have implications with the “Data Protection Act of 1998” and also “Human Rights Act of 1998,” which is why you must have training and qualifications before you get a job in these areas.
Other functions of a CCTV operator could be to; know how to use CCTV equipment, communicate with other control rooms, know how to deal with events, know CCTV surveillance techniques.
These are just two of the many fields in the security industry and give an insight into how demanding the industry is and why it should be governed. These regulations are important to keep the security industry reliable, safe and transparent. |
